I thought I’d write a scene that might help first-year acting students understand through action that, beyond the text, the con-text matters more: that is, the situation; that is, the rules of the game we call life.

Okay, now I’m talking nonsense! KISS, Bogdan!
(Keep it simple, stupid!)

The short scene “So?”

(The roles may be played by: man–woman, woman–man, man–man, or woman–woman.)

— So?
— No.
— Are you sure?
— Yes.
— Why?
— I can’t.
— You haven’t even tried.
— I don’t want to.
— You don’t?
— I do. But I don’t.
— Okay. Then I’m leaving.
— Wait.
— Say it!
— I’m scared.
— Why?
— I don’t know. Because I don’t know how.
— It’ll be fine.
— What if it isn’t?
— Even if it isn’t, it’ll still be fine.
— Promise?
— No.
— See?
— Since… (say the year you were born)
— You’re so stupid!
— I love you.
— I love you too. But no.
— Fine. Then I’m leaving.
